Save Our Queen!

by Steven Wood last modified 2007-07-21 00:06

Community members encouraged to attend City Council Meetings Monday 16th - Wednesday 18th at Toronto City Hall.

Hello Active 18'ers,

Things are not looking good for the Queen West Triangle. We have virtually exhausted our legal avenues of appeal for the OMB decision, and we've still gotten nowhere with our demands and concerns for parkland, retaining jobs in the neighbourhood, saving 48 Abell, getting user-friendly sidewalks and streets, and height restrictions on Queen.

The developers continue to get their way with the OMB, the City Planning Department, and our local politicians.

This Monday, (and possibly Tuesday or Wednesday - depending how the meeting agenda is set), an Official Plan and Zoning By-Law Amendment is being voted on by City Council. We are begging Adam Giambrone to finally stand up and fight for a sustainable plan in the Triangle. To date he has been ineffective in presenting the community's views to the planners and other politicians. We have given him a list of amendments to the proposed plan that would at least temper the disaster that appears to be coming our way on Queen West.

The Queen West Triangle, as proposed, has a density that is higher than St.  Jamestown (and we know how that social experiment ended up), is parks deficient, has inadequate plans for giving back to the creative industries these developments are displacing, demolishes 48 Abell, and has a very unsafe street grid with dead ends, semi-private courtyards, and tall canyons of glass and steel.

Now is the time for councillor Giambrone to SAVE OUR QUEEN.

We encourage you to attend the council meetings July16th-18th at City Hall.

You can also make your opinions known by emailing the media, city councillors, Adam Giambrone (Ward 18), Gord Perks (Ward 14 Parkdale Councillor), and Mayor Miller.  Please CC us on your correspondence so we can be sure it doesn't get buried in the bureaucracy.
