Urgent Fundraising Appeal

Active 18 is in the midst of an Ontario Municipal Board challenge
regarding the massive developments proposed for the Queen West Triangle.
We are relying on donated legal services and volunteer experts,
researchers, architects, planners, business owners, writers, artists and
residents to have our voices heard at the hearings. Despite this massive
volunteer effort, we do have expenses and need your financial support to
make ends meet.

Please send along any money you can manage - $5.00 to $5,000.00. We
gratefully accept these donations but cannot write charitable
tax-receipts for them as we are not a registered charity.
Please make the cheques payable to the 'Active 18 Community
Association'.

Send them to:
Active 18 Community Association
76 Gladstone Avenue

OMB News and Documents

We've dedicated two separate pages to the OMB proceedings:

Designation of 48 Abell Street under the Ontario Heritage Act

Councillor Giambrone has put forth the motion at Community Council and City Council to designate 48 Abell Street under the Ontario Heritage Act. This item will be debated and voted upon at the City Council meeting Sept 25th - 28th.

WHAT IS ACTIVE18?

Active 18 is a citizens, residents and business-owners association of Ward 18. We have formed quickly to answer to the proposed developments located south of Queen St West in a portion of the Queen West Triangle.

WHAT ARE WE TRYING TO ACCOMPLISH?

We are insisting on good urban design, development and architecture.

The goal of ACTIVE 18 is to inform as well as reflect and focus citizen participation on future development in our neighbourhood. We need to speak to our elected officials and City staff and tell them what we want. ACTIVE 18 is an open and transparent group. All are welcome to participate.

URGENT ACTION REQUIRED

OBJECTIVE

Our objective is to ensure that all new development constitutes a genuinely positive and exemplary addition to the neighborhood and to the city at large.

We aspire to work as closely as possible with all facets of the municipal and provincial governments, with the land-owners and their representatives to define an order for development that is beneficial to all, now and in the future.

GET INFORMED

  1. Three developments are currently being proposed. A lot more real estate speculation is taking place in the neighbourhood amounting to up to seven towers of more than 19 floors. Other potential development sites are located in the vicinity of Lisgar and Sudbury.
